Sørensenite (TL)

Sørensenite is quite a rare mineral. One locality worldwide, which logically is the Type Locality. And even there it wasn't easy to find. We collected this specimen of Sørensenite ourselves in 2008 when we visited the Ilimaussaq complex in july. The specimen consists of parellel massive pink Sørensenite crystals to 2 cm long. Pink in daylight, but under SW-UV it shows a typical creamwhite/blueisch fluorescence. For completeness we also added the MW and LW pictures. But Sørensenite is usually only interesting under SW-UV (and interesting for the rare mineral/type locality collector). For more info, see Mindat and see some more pictures and videos here.

We promised you strange minerals from strange places, and that's what you'll get :)

Naujakasite Arfvedsonite

Rare mineral, only known from the Ilimaussaq complex. Naujakasite forms almost uncountable white-beige (rhomb-shaped shiny flakes) crystals to 2mm on this specimen. There are so many Naujakasite crystals on this specimen, it seems it makes up most of the rock itself together with the dark-green Arfvedsonite. We picked this specimen up in 2008 on the steep slope of Mt.Kvanefjeld, ca.40 meters right from the path to the top of the hill. For more info, see Mindat and see our Greenland pictures. According to a GEUS publication by Sørensen Naujakasite crystals are on average 1mm long, so 2mm is quite ok. The 1 cm+ crystals on Mindat are exceptionally large...
